I am embarrassed that I had never heard of Ravensbruck before this, and am always appalled when I hear of yet another atrocity of which I somehow managed to remain ignorant.
Ravensbruck had over 300,000 prisoners pass thru it during the war, over 90,000 of which were murdered.
Many of these were woman with children.
It's a powerful piece.
And despite it's grim subject, it is full of life and humor and spirit.

ReplyDeleteI think this is the first pass for this piece, and will (hopefully) have a longer life somewhere in the future.
I'm glad my rehearsal was moved earlier and so I didn't have to miss this. I've seen a number of attempts to treat the concentration camps in a cabaret format-- and this one was truly excellent and well deserves a longer life. Lynn did a wonderful job putting together all the elements, and you have every right to be proud of your contributions, even if, as you mentioned to me as we crossed paths on the sidewalk, you came in at the eleventh hour.
